Monday 26 December 2011

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas! I will probably post more next week when I'm back at university. There's been too much going on at home for the past month, so please excuse my lack of posting D:

Merry Christmas! x

Saturday 26 November 2011

The concert was sooo good! I got quite close, but it's difficult to take decent photos when everybody is jumping around. These are some of the best ones :)

He was singing 'Seaside' in this one above.

Unfortunately, however, they started really late (like, two and a half hours late according to my brother. But he might be exaggerating. It was a long time though). Nothing happened for half an hour, then the warm-up band played for a while, and then there was nothing for a good 20 minutes. I forgot how annoyed I was though once they came on stage, haha. But it meant I had to leave early in order to catch the last bus :(

Tuesday 15 November 2011

I've straightened my hair :) It won't go as wavy/curly as it used to; the front goes all wavy, but the back is mostly straight and flat, so I figured I would just straighten all of it until a better hair day comes along :') My hair seems to change depending on my mood.

And I really can't wait to see this gorgeous young man next week:

I'm still unable to believe that I'm actually going to see The Kooks! They were always that one band I loved, but never thought I'd actually get to see. I went to a lot of concerts when I was younger, but they were all emo bands I've mostly outgrown. This will be the first non-emo band I've seen, hahah.

Monday 14 November 2011

I'm actually getting quite impatient for it to snow, even though I don't like cold weather. It snows heavily in Canada - not like in England where the first snowfall melts an hour later. I wish it would do that here. I want it to snow, but then go away again and just rain :P

My dad sent me this lovely dress last week:

It's from a shop in the UK called Republic. I'm going to wear it more around Christmas/New Year time for parties and whatnot. I think it's so pretty! It's navy blue, if you can't see it properly (I just can't take decent photos on my good camera, so I have to use my webcam).

I also did a little room decorating:

I haven't been feeling very happy for the past few weeks, so I started going through some magazines for pictures to stick on my board. Somehow, it's made me feel a little better. It makes my room feel a little cheerier and girlier. Also, I'm going to see The Kooks in concert next Wednesday! I'm going with my brother and his girlfriend, even though he doesn't particularly want to come, hahah. They're my absolute favourite band, so I very passionately forced him into buying a ticket so he could go with me :') I really can't wait.

Wednesday 26 October 2011

I received a blog award from Georgie! Dankeschön :)

According to the rules on Georgie's blog, I think I'm supposed to write seven facts/things about myself and then award other bloggers.

Okay, so, seven facts about myself:

1. I'm from the UK but I live in Canada. I've been here for about seven years, but I still have a very strong English accent :s

2. I'm not always conscious of this, but apparently people find me very 'spacey' and I remind them of Cassie from Skins, aha. A few people said I even look like her, but I genuinely don't see the resemblance. I don't have blonde hair, for a start.

3. I'm in love with fashions of the 1950s and 60s - I like anything vintage. I get excited if I see "retro" Coke in the glass bottles, haha. I also love everything about the 80s: the music, films, fashion, t.v shows, etc. I think if I absolutely had to choose which decade I want to live in, I would choose the 80s.

4. I like to write. I'm an English major at university, although I don't really think I'm likely to become a published writer, haha. I'm thinking about revising a story I wrote two years ago and submitting it for publication. You just never know :')

5. Aside from writing, I like to sew. I was initially going to study fashion at university, but in the end I decided English would offer something more promising - I might become a teacher. But in my spare time, I like to make skirts and dresses. I recently made a little black dress inspired by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys

6. I went through a major emo/goth/scene phase when I was younger. Fortunately, I don't have any photos of that tragic time :')

7.  I want to travel a lot. I really want to go to Germany and Austria and Switzerland, and I'd love to visit the Netherlands. I also want to visit every state in America. My brother has done that - I have a souvenir teddy or t-shirt from every state. So far I've only been to New York and Florida.

Now for the awards:

Georgie - She has a great blog. Even though I don't understand much German, I can still look at it and get something out of it. There are a lot of cooking recipes and some fashion posts :)

Elisabeth - One of my other favourite blogs; I've been following her for a while. She's extremely sweet and really helpful when it comes to my German hausaufgaben :') Her blog is really lovely, with lots of photos and meaningful posts, and she has an amazing sense of style.

Shirin - The only person I could actually consider a best/close friend, so of course she gets an award :) Her posts are quite funny, aha.

Katherine - This girl posts stunning photos!

Also, if anybody has Tumblr, you can follow me here :)

Tuesday 25 October 2011

When I'm supposed to be doing homework, I start taking photos. Not even particularly good ones, haha. I've never considered myself photogenic. You can probably tell why.

Also, I've noticed that I have a few German-speaking followers, so I'm going to make the effort...

Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch, aber meine grammatik und mein wortschatz sind nicht gut.

I don't know how to say the rest, but basically I want to practice my German, haha. If I got that sentence above correct, I'm proud, because I wrote that without help from Google translate :') But ja, feel free to comment in German and I'll try my best to reply. I'm still only learning, so es tut mir leid :P

Monday 24 October 2011

I can't sleep, so here's a Nadia Esra inspired photo I took on my webcam, haha. You should check out her blog if you haven't already; she's an amazing photographer and is absolutely gorgeous:  http://nadiaesra.blogspot.com/

My clothes from New Look arrived! I ordered these from newlook.co.uk last week and they just arrived a few days ago. I'm so happy :) The first photo is just a floral top and the second is a paperbag skirt (its kind of ruched at the waist). I've also just ordered a book called 'Charlotte Sometimes' by Penelope Farmer. If anybody knows the song 'Charlotte Sometimes' by The Cure, that's what caught my interest in the book. I couldn't sleep last night and was curious as to the song's meaning, and apparently its based on that book! I looked at an excerpt when I ordered the book, and you can definitely tell where the lyrics of the song came from. From what I read, it sounds really interesting.

Friday 7 October 2011

I don't have any photos to post, but I think I ought to update my blog :')

I've been doing fairly well with assignments so far. In German, I got an A on my last quiz (I'm a little nervous about getting my other quiz back because I don't think I did so well). I got a B on my in-class English essay and a B on my more formal essay, which was just given back to me today.

Now I have a week off (like a holiday, but not really because I have 20 pages of German grammar sheets to complete). I also have a philosophy test to study for, which speaking of, I want to drop. I just can't follow the discussions in that class and that creepy boy won't leave me alone. I don't want to sound mean, but he's actually the most pathetic human being I've ever come across. There are at least ten unrelated text messages from him, one after the other, that I haven't replied to. And when I have the misfortune of bumping into him, or if I'm not fast enough to bolt from the classroom before he sees me, he just apologizes over and over again for anything and everything he's done/said and how embarrassed he is for gushing out his feelings. But he does it again anyway and just embarrasses himself more.

When he started going on about how sorry he is and how I must think he's a "freak" (correct) he said, "Do you want me to get down on my knees?" and was actually going to proceed to get on his knees and carry on with how sorry he is. I'm not exaggerating or making this up. It's getting ridiculous. Another thing he did was bolt to the door before I could get there, like he was taking a bullet for me, and said, "I'll get that for you!" and opened the door for me. He'd probably put his jacket over a puddle for me too.

He constantly texts me even though I don't reply, asking if I want to get lunch with him or just hang out. He sends me 'good morning' texts and 'good night' texts, asks how I am and what I'm doing. He even texts me moments after he saw me in person, saying things like, "Lucky me! I got a surprise today!"

So did I, but it wasn't a lucky one.

Even when he sees me in person, he picks up on my poor body language and general annoyance (I know because he mentions things like, "I know I annoy you but..." or "I know you're probably going to say no, but...") yet he continues to contact me and find any excuse he can to see me. He's really starting to annoy me. Why can't he take a hint and go away?

I'm either dropping philosophy or ending my life if this carries on.

Monday 26 September 2011

It's difficult to really see in webcam photos, but I've re-dyed my hair! Its more ginger-ish and now all my hair is one colour :')

Also, my friend said I should write about this next thing: last week, I accidentally got my myself a boyfriend. Not many people can do that, haha. It was this boy in my philosophy class. I don't want to repeat all the details because I'm so embarrassed by it all, but now this boy won't leave me alone. I 'broke up' with him very soon after he 'asked me out'. I didn't even give it a day. Now he constantly texts me and tries to find ways to hang out with me - for the past week, he kept sending me these stupid soppy text messages. It will have a lot of humour value later, but right now, I'm just getting irritated. He just phoned me half an hour ago, in fact (I didn't answer, hahah). I don't understand how some boys just don't know when to stop.

Monday 19 September 2011

It's so cold today, so straight after my morning lesson (German) I went and bought myself a cup of coffee. I think it's actually colder in my room than it is outside, which is also why I'm wearing my big stripey sweater. As you might be able to tell, I really like it, haha.

I have the rest of the day to study now, which I think I'll dedicate entirely to German, as I have a quiz on Wednesday. Every time I tell someone I'm studying German, they look at me like I'm mad and go on to tell me that its a difficult language. I don't find it that difficult though - so far, at least. In fact, I find it easier than French. Even if it does turn out to be really confusing and difficult, I'm not giving up on it.

Oh, and I also got this lovely dress on the weekend:

I couldn't get any full-body photos on my webcam, because the lighting goes all shadowy and dark when I step back, so I'll take better photos on my proper camera later. It's basically just a fitted lace dress :)

Wednesday 14 September 2011

Outfit of the day, haha. I didn't actually wear this anywhere because I wasn't feeling well and therefore didn't leave my room much. But I like it so much I thought I would show it off and post it on here :)

The skirt is from Forever 21 and I forget where I bought the tights. They're a pinkish-purple in natural light.

Monday 12 September 2011

Last night was the end of Frosh week, and to finish it off, they took us on a boat cruise. Initially, I probably wouldn't have gone on the cruise because I haven't been feeling well for the past few days - I think I'm getting a cold. But my mum paid extra for the ticket, so I kind of had to ;P

I'm glad I did though, because it was quite a lot of fun. There weren't many people going, but I found my two lovely English friends, Sarah and Valentina, to go with (the girls in the picture). There was also Jess, one of the Australian girls, but unfortunately she isn't in the picture :(

On another note, judging by the pictures taken last night, I really need to re-dye my hair. I noticed a drastic difference between the top of my hair and the ends of my hair: the top is brunnette, the ends are red/ginger-ish. I don't think its noticeable to other people - one boy in res actually referred to me as a redhead and was surprised when I said the colour is fake, which I never even thought was that deep of a red to start with. The roots blend in quite naturally, but when I think about it, my fringe is an entirely different colour from the rest of my hair. I need to sort this out, but I'm too scared to dye it on my own again because of the bright-orange tragedy that happened last time, and getting it done at the hairdresser is expensive. I don't know what to do D:

Thursday 8 September 2011

I'm loving res a lot more than I thought I would. I've made so many friends, particularly with some of the Australian girls and, of course, the British girls. I'm surprisingly so at ease with everyone already. Naturally, I'm still quiet, but the only change is that I'm not so shy anymore. If I have something to say, I just say it, which I never used to normally do. I don't know where this sudden change came from.

It's still Frosh week, even though classes have started. I've cut up my Frosh shirt (above pictures), so that its all slouchy and off-the-shoulder. I cropped it as well at the bottom, so now it doesn't swamp me whenever I put it on ;D

I'm getting a bit of a cold though, which is so very typical. That might be due to a combination of not eating properly and staying up most of the night. I've probably lost weight too, but I'm not complaining on that one, ha. I just don't know what to eat, besides salad, when everything on campus is fast food. And I can't get much sleep either, no matter how early I go to bed, because there will always be other people awake and making loads of noise in the corridor - slamming doors and whatnot. So, those are the only reasons I would consider going home for the weekend.

As for classes, German is my favourite so far. I've always loved that language and wanted to learn it; I want to learn loads of languages, actually. I want to learn Dutch next, and also master French, because I can't speak that as well as I can read it. My other classes are Studies in Literature, Professional Writing, Intertextualities (a fancy term for English), and Ethics. I also want to take up ballet again. There's a recreational centre on campus that offers classes for about $90, so I've packed my ballet shoes and dance kit.

I might go shopping this weekend, because I think my pay cheque goes in tomorrow (it's actually nearly midnight now, so I reckon I'll wait up a bit longer to check my bank balance online and see if anything changes, haha). I'm dying to have a look around all these vintage shops my friend Rose was telling me about - apparently its like Camden Market, so that's got me all excited.

But anyway, all-in-all, its fantastic here :)

Saturday 3 September 2011

I just moved into residence yesterday and this is my room! It's very cluttered and untidy, but I'm quite happy with it so far. I want to buy some fairy lights to tack along the shelves, and I still need to put up some more pictures.

One thing I don't like about res is that the toilets and showers are unisex. Quite frankly, I'm not fond of taking a shower in a cubicle next to some naked guy. I don't see why we can't have separate showers and toilets. I might get over it in a while, but I never go into the bathroom until I'm sure there are no boys in there ;P

Also, there are at least three other British people on my floor - two girls and one boy. I haven't spoken to them properly yet, but I will when I get the chance. I think that should be easy, as we already have something in common just by being British :)

Monday 29 August 2011

I start my first year at university next week and so I'm moving into residence very soon. I've already started packing some of my clothes. I'm panicking a little though, as I still haven't bought everything on my shopping list. I still need jeans and skirts. Lots of skirts. The trouble is, however, I still have to buy my German textbook and I don't know how much that costs yet. So, I'll have to spend the last of my money on that book and wait another two weeks until my next pay cheque comes through. Boo.

Saturday 20 August 2011

Hanging out with my 'gay' cat. Hahah.

First post :)

This is my face...

And I don't really know what to start blogging about just yet, haha. I'm sure once I get into it, it will be fun. For now, this is all just for me, where I can post all my pointless pictures.
